The Leadership Development Academy is a pre-conference, stand-alone session open to anyone wishing to sharpen their leadership and team building skills.
During this day-long session, you will be introduced to topics such as:

- Motivation: Keys for Effective Leadership
- Developing Effective Teams and Team Building
Situational Leadership
The recognition of task and relationships as two important dimensions of leader behavior will be explored through examining the styles of leadership. Is any one style of leadership best? Successful leaders are those that learn to adapt their leader behavior to meet the needs of their followers and the particular situation. This session will explore that relationship.
Objectives:
• To identify the five styles of leadership
• Discover your own leadership style
• Understand the follower/leader relationship
Motivation: Key for Effective Leadership
This workshop will help you understand the secret to all motivation. Compare the traditional motivational techniques with more contemporary methods. Learn about five different motivational techniques that will promote a better leader/follower relationship. Discuss different applications for motivating for effective performance.
Objectives:
• Identify, discuss and question traditional
concepts of motivation
• Identify the source(s) of all human motivation
• Study different motivational concepts based on the nature of people
• Discuss applications of motivating for performance
Developing Effective Teams and Team Building
Given the challenges facing organizations today, the old age adage that “not one of us is as smart as all of us” takes on new proportions. By learning the knowledge and skills required to effectively lead teams, you can enhance your organization’s success while building rewarding experiences for all team members.
Objectives:
• To identify and learn the elements of an effective team
• To acquire new knowledge and skills for creating an effective team approach
• Look at the common problems with teams
• Discover what is required to build and lead teams effectively

About the Presenter, Rodney Vandeveer

Rodney Vandeveer, an associate professor in the College of Technology at Purdue University, offers his teaching, training and 30 years of industrial experience.
In the Department of Organizational Leadership and Supervision at Purdue, he teaches Human Behavior in Organizations, Leadership Philosophy, Leadership Strategies for Quality and Productivity, Entrepreneurship and Emerging World-class Leadership Strategies.
He has his Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University and a Masters of Science degree in Management from Indiana Wesleyan University.
